Retailer POB differences, explained
Each retailer commissions its own benefit photocards. Korean shops like Aladin, Yes24 and Withmuu differ from export shops like Ktown4u and Makestar both in what they offer and in whether they ship internationally, so completing a set means knowing which shop gave which card.
Retailers commission their own benefits
The same album comes with a different photocard depending on where you bought it. The label does not hand these out — each retailer produces its own to pull pre-orders to its own shop. Completing a set therefore means knowing which shop offered what.
Domestic shops vs export shops
Domestic shops
Aladin, Yes24, Withmuu and similar. They sell primarily inside Korea and often ship internationally either not at all or with restrictions. They tend to offer the widest variety of benefits, frequently bundled with fansign entry events.
For a fan abroad that means they are hard to buy from, so fewer of their cards ever reach the rest of the world. It is why a domestic shop’s benefit for a given album is usually harder to find overseas than an export shop’s.
Export shops
Ktown4u, Makestar and similar. Built around international shipping, with multi-language storefronts. They are the route most overseas fans use, so their benefits show up on the secondhand market in comparatively larger numbers.
Local retailers outside Korea
Target and Apple Music in the US have both run their own exclusive benefits. Watching only Korean retailers leaves gaps in a set.
Types of benefit
- Pre-order benefit (POB) — every pre-order buyer gets one. The most common form
- Lucky draw — awarded to a randomly chosen few. Small print run, high prices
- Fansign entry benefit — for people entering the event. The scarcest of all
- Album inclusion — not a benefit at all; a card that ships inside the album itself
Print runs shrink as you go down that list. For how we treat scarcity, see the rarity guide.
How to choose
- Find which shop is offering the benefit you actually want
- Check whether that shop ships to your country
- If it does not, weigh a forwarding service against the secondhand market
- Remember that splitting an order across shops multiplies the shipping cost
Which retailer offered what for a given album is on the the set boards; current prices and how hard a specific card is to find are on each card’s own page.
